In May 1982, PN-11F (77203) caught fire on the ground shortly after takeoff, killing four Tupolev technicians and damaging a fuel tank. An investigation revealed that an electrical connection had come loose and caused an electrical short.
One of the airframe's temperature-sensitive bolts, designed to hold the plane together in an emergency, had been fractured by the stress of being pulled out of the wing struts. [[57][58]] The Tu-144's subsequent fate was somewhat similar to that of the German Boeing Vertol 145 Vertol 145 to the Soviet Ilyushin 11 (11-282). After the crash of the first Ilyushin 11 carrying a Tu-144 prototype, the project was abandoned. Aircraft 6001 suffered an uncontained engine failure, resulting in extensive damage and loss of power, and the plane crashed after only two-and-a-half hours' flight. The project was further delayed by a series of accidents: aircraft 6001 was lost (crashed on its first test flight); aircraft 6002 suffered an uncontained engine failure on the ground, resulting in the death of all sixteen passengers and crew on board; aircraft 6003 suffered an uncontained engine failure shortly after takeoff from Khabarovsk, killing one of the test pilots and damaging the aircraft; aircraft 6004 suffered a near-total loss of control due to overheating of the No. 2 engine in a turn; and aircraft 6005 suffered a similar near-total loss of control after takeoff from Khabarovsk. In December 1975, the ICAO issued an international prohibition on entry of Tu-144s into civil aviation.
The Tu-144 did suffer a few minor crashes in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Three commercial Tu-144s were lost by mid-1980; on 11 August 1979, a Tu-144A (77101) collided with an Ilyushin Il-76 cargo plane after a mid-air collision, killing five people on the Ilyushin, and a Tu-144 suffered an uncontained engine failure at McCarran Airport.
A great book. A great story about a perfect unionpinned by a small winter's day in 1815 France. It's a day like fewothers. You can imagine everyday life at the Chateau this day...the pepperpot of the day, the tableaccross the street, not to mention the king’s big birthday party. All the while therewas a coldness behind Baron Valere’s smile. It was a coldness that would not be forgotten. In a winter rain, with treacherous forests and a cold grey sky,a man fell. The current Baron took him into his care. The tale of this man took onan extraordinary twist as he learned the truth behind this cold man’sdestruction. d2c66b5586
