The serial tool can decode any of the many forms of passwords and encodes them into a series of binary values, which can then be encoded as a hash in the form of a password. Running a command and leaving it open works just fine. However if you want to automatically save the output of a command, you can do so via a shell script. The shell script will run the command and then save the output to a text file. Let's say we are interested in the latest log files that have been uploaded to a server.

To send a command to be executed, escape the command's output using back-slash. The backslash illustrates a special character that tells the shell to send the output of the command in-line.
