Microsoft's free Office 365 and Office 2013 are an excellent option for all those that are coming from a traditional desktop subscription world (used to mean MS Office 2010 Academic and MS Office 2010 Business). Access to a subscription is great when it comes to the services (especially Exchange or Outlook) and avoiding storage costs, but what happens after the subscription?
If you're looking at a 2016 plan where taking the services is prohibitively expensive, Office 365 may be an excellent option for business users since they get the same services and a lot of other stuff you don't get. There are Office 2010 products available as a Customer Solution and this means you still have that license to use those products. If it meets your needs, it's great. If not, it's free and all you need to do to get the original Office 2016 is to buy a new license.
If you decide to go with the subscription model, you can give Microsoft a sixty-day trial of Office 2016 for PCs by choosing MSDN subscription or selecting any OEM pre-installed version of Windows.
With Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012, Microsoft increased consumer-focused Office 2013 options to include higher security levels, and removed Print Services, OneDrive, sync, sync across all devices, and OneNote (only web versions remaining) from Home editions. 2012 versions of MS Office Professional and Professional Plus have the business-focused ADR features removed, and Home editions still offer only web-based OneNote (although the OneDrive web apps can be used, if desired).
Some of the apps are either limited or absent from other platforms, such as Atlassian's JIRA and Confluence. The new cloud-based versions of Outlook, OneNote, and Yammer are also available on non-Microsoft platforms. And some major new features are still missing, such as a native version of the mobile apps. However, the major new features from Office 2016 such as integration with external programs, cloud integration, and access from different platforms remains. 7211a4ac4a
