Ranma ½ was produced by Studio Deen and aired on Fuji TV between April 15, 1989 and September 16, 1989. The first and third seasons (the first and fourth anime), following the original manga in the manga series, were also produced by Studio Deen. The second season aired on Fuji TV and was produced by Studio Deen with the assistance of Toei Animation, and the first two of the OVAs aired on Fuji TV and were produced by Toei Animation. Each season also included an hour-long special titled Ranma 1/2 Full Stage(Ranma 1 Full Stagea(Ranma: Full Stagea was broadcast on Fuji TV from September 27, 1989 to September 24, 1990. The script used for Ranma 1 Full Stage was written by Hideaki Sorachi, who would later write the scripts for InuYasha and Ranma ½ Netthen (½).[7]

Rumiko Takahashi resumed serialization of Ranma ½ in 1988 with the first story published in Weekly Shōnen Jump on November 1.[8] It was serialized monthly until the manga was canceled on April 1990 and published in 12 volumes in tankōbon format. Rumiko Takahashi wrote the first Ranma ½ manga story on her own, but later in 1988 recruited the artists Kei Morimura and Leika Konatsu to assist. Together, they created the original Ranma ½ art style. Takahashi's original intended for Ranma ½ he was a young woman named Ryōko who was the reason behind Tsumugu being named after the popular Japanese vase Tsumugu. Originally, the story had a completely different plot line to the one that ended up becoming Ranma ½. In the original manga, Ryōko was actually a man named Tokusō.[9]

It should be noted that several episodes of Ranma ½ and Ranma ½ Netthen, ½ contain a mix of pictures from the original Japanese broadcast and other, more modern-looking slides. The differences between the two versions are subtle and the differences are not consistently present. 7211a4ac4a
